## Dave Roberts‘ World Series Workout Mishap: A Lighthearted Moment Amidst High Stakes
Los Angeles dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided a humorous anecdote friday, reflecting on his unexpected tumble during a World Series workout in Toronto. He jokingly declared he’s done with sprinting after a race with second baseman Hyeseong Kim went hilariously wrong.adding a touch of levity to Thursday’s practice, Roberts challenged Kim to a dash around the bases. Unfortunately for the manager, the race ended with a rather ungraceful fall while rounding second base.
Kim was positioned on first, while Roberts took his stance near where a runner would typically lead off. Rounding second,Roberts stumbled and hit the ground, immediately clutching his leg.
He quickly feigned a hamstring injury, much to the amusement of his team. “I clearly wasn’t thinking,” Roberts admitted. “I was trying to add a little levity, that’s for sure. I wasn’t trying to do a face-plant at shortstop, and yeah, the legs just gave way.”
Roberts confirmed this will be his last full sprint, adding he’d already paid a wager related to the race. Despite the fall, he assured reporters he was feeling alright.
“I got some meds in me,” Roberts stated. “I’m still going to post. I’m probable. So it’s good. Recovered. Not my best decision, but it worked out.”
A Team-Building Moment
Second baseman Miguel Rojas saw the incident as a positive sign. He believes it demonstrates Roberts’ willingness to ease tension and connect with the team during a critical elimination scenario.
rojas playfully suggested Roberts might have had a better chance going directly from first to third.”I think that was the initial thought of the race,” he explained, “but then he wanted to prove a point that he can beat him from that start, and it wasn’t enough. We all saw the results.”
Roberts also shared that his family had weighed in on the incident, with his children expressing their disapproval. However, the mishap served as a reminder of his own athletic past.
Beyond his managerial role, Roberts is widely remembered for a pivotal stolen base during the 2004 World Series with the Boston Red Sox. This play was instrumental in breaking the Red Sox’s 86-year championship drought, cementing his place in baseball history.Ultimately, Roberts’ playful fall offered a welcome moment of lightness as the Dodgers prepare for a high-stakes series. It’s a reminder that even amidst intense competition, a little humor can go a long way in building team spirit and relieving pressure.
