Roger Denny Named University of Oklahoma’s New Athletic Director
Norman, OK – January 24, 2026 – The University of Oklahoma has appointed Roger Denny as its 12th Vice President and Director of Athletics, the university announced on Friday. Denny, currently the deputy athletic director and chief operating officer at the university of Illinois, will succeed Joe Castiglione, who retired in July after a historic tenure.

Denny’s Background and Experience
Prior to his role at Illinois, Denny spent 15 years practicing law at Spencer Fane LLP in St. Louis. During his four years at illinois, he oversaw the football program, along with internal operations, facilities, human resources, business intelligence, and sports technology. This broad experience positions him well to manage the complexities of a major university athletic department.

Joe Castiglione’s retirement in July 2025 brought to a close the longest tenure of any athletic director in major college sports. He will transition into the role of athletic director emeritus, leaving behind a legacy of success and stability for the Sooners athletic program.
